They would return to a Digital World devastated by the Dark Masters, a quartet of evil Digimon who had risen to power while the Digidestined were on Earth, the newest set of battles including defeating one of the Dark Masters, would drive Matt to leave the group, resulting in the death of a second Dark Master. With Joe choosing to stay with Mimi who in turn was sick of the fighting and refused to move, the rest of the group headed off, Kari falling sick and the quest for medicine leading to the defeat of the third Dark Master.
With one to go, the stage was set for the penultimate showdown, but the Digidestined needed to regroup and Tai sent Sora and T.K to find the others. In their hunt, Sora was pulled into a cave that fed upon negative emotions as she found herself doubting that she would succeed. However Matt and Joe, who had met up, were able to snap her out of it and they headed back to the others, to time to try to defeat the last Dark Master who proceeded to turn all but the two youngest Digidestined and T.K's partner into keychains. However in trying to kill the two kids, he made T.K trigger his Crest and Patamon finally reached his Ultimate form, temporarily defeating Piedmon and restoring the others back to normal for a second attempt at defeating the clown, the group being joined by Mimi who had gathered their Digimon allies from earlier adventures this time.
Defeating the final Dark Master, the kids soon found it wasn't quite over as the Big Bad behind all the evil Digimon they had fought finally made himself known and destroyed their Crests and Tags. However the Digidestined discovered they no longer needed those items and launched into the biggest fight of their lives with the fates of both the Digital World and Earth hanging in the balance. The kids won but it was a bittersweet victory as they had to leave the Digital World or be stuck there for goodness knows how long. Saying goodbye to their partners, the eight children went home.
Four years later, during which Sora had made her peace with her mother, learning tennis and flower-arranging and spending the weekends shopping with her mom, a new more human evil rose to threaten the Digital World, but this time, a mostly new team of Digidestined which including T.K and Kari rose to meet the challenge and those that came afterwards, Sora and her other friends acting as guides and mentors to the younger kids as they took over the fight to save both worlds. It was during this time that Sora finally chose to be with Matt and after the Digidestined from Japan and all over the world joined forces to defeat an old enemy, both worlds would find peace at last and when Sora grew up, she married Matt, having two children, who would get their own partners, and becoming a fashion designer.
