Also, I'm gonna put him in the Shippuden timeline -after- Asuma and Hidan's fight, since that was sort of an important turning point in his life.))
Personality: Shikamaru is known for his reluctance to engage in anything that involves effort, preferring to spend his days quietly with leisurely activities such as cloud-watching and Shogi. His laid-back attitude is trumped however when it comes to a need to protect his friends, as he shows a willingness to sacrifice himself for their sake.
Although it's not widely known, Shikamaru is fairly good at knowing what to do or say in order to evoke a desired reaction from a comrade, especially if they need to be cheered up. He makes a habit of visiting friends who've ended up in the hospital, as well as having a knack for dispelling thoughts of self-deprecation showing through in a friend's demeanor. This is one of the reasons he has such a close friendship with Chouji, as he's consoled him more than once not to take other's comments to heart regarding his weight, as that's not what's important in life.
In recent years, Shikamaru has begun to accept more responsibilities, including serving as a Chuunin exam proctor. His first failed Chuunin mission weighs heavily in his mind from time to time, serving as a constant reminder that it's important for him to work to the best of his ability as well as motivation to prevent a similar occurrence.
Sample Post: Shikamaru wasn't immune to a stumble as well when Chouji laid an armor-heavy arm across his back. It wasn't anything uncommon however, all three of them leaned on each other one way or another throughout their years of friendship.
He seemed satisfied with Temari's plan, and indeed it sounded better to approach the Kazekage as a group. Konohagakure's rumours varied when it came to the public opinion on Gaara. Personally, Shikamaru found it hard sometimes to forget the look on the misunderstood Suna leader's face from years ago when he'd almost attacked Lee in the hospital. There were no hard feelings on his end these days of course, especially after piecing together some previous events from stories. Still, a death threat wasn't something that was quickly discarded from memory.
"Yeah, that sounds good." He was honestly surprised by the number of people active during what had to be the sun's most brutal hours of the day. A cool drink was sounding better all the time.
Though the crowd was troublesome to navigate, Shikamaru's habitual frown soon became a smirk as he spotted what was surely the intended destination. A familiar site indeed.
