In the void, there is only blackness, the unending darkness surrounding my metal shell. The blackness shows nothing and allows passage of nothing. Nothing can live here. I do not live; I exist. No longer human, I am a brain in a metal case. Devoid of emotion I am never bored in the void. How can a brain that works on quad-binary logic to five hundred and thirty three decimal points and knows nothing of emotions feel boredom? To feel boredom would be a weakness and all weakness has been removed from my body. A metal heart, reverberating inside my metal chest pumps synthetic lubricants and nutrients to my bio-augmentations. Recycling everything and wasting nothing: which is exactly what I have become. A human is defined by his or her emotions - what the individual thinks and feels. I compute a thousand algorithms per second, but I do not think. I remember a summer’s day, the warmth on an inferior skin; but I cannot understand how it affected me. The temperature was two hundred and ninety degrees kelvin, the wind speed was five point zero zero miles per hour and the air pressure was zero point nine nine nine atmospheres. I know this. My upgraded brain can retroactively understand what an inferior body sensed, but I cannot experience the sensation – and I cannot conceive of it as anything but data. In the beginning I strove to escape the void, to contact fellows or enemies. Coldly and logically I calculated for three months, seven days, fifteen hours and thirty four point seven six three seconds until all logical conclusions had been reached. I am trapped, and so I shall remain. I am entombed but I exist, forever. I cannot leave, my duty is done.
