Character: Kankuro Fandom: Naruto Character Notes: Of the three Sand Siblings, Kankuro is the second oldest – the middle child of the family. Like his sister, Temari, Kankuro tends to be more sarcastic and abrasive than their Leaf Nin counterparts. Growing up in the slowly declining Hidden Sand, and with the sadistic Gaara as his brother, Kankuro was forced to become a tough, hardened young man fairly early on. Despite his apparent disdain for his younger brother during his initial appearance in the manga, after the three year time skip it becomes clear that Kankuro deeply cares for Gaara and would be more than willing to give up his life for their Kazekage.

Kankuro hated most people. They tended to be loud and annoying. This applied especially to children. He despised them, the little ill-behave brats.
It didn’t take a genius to figure out why he hated them so much – children reminded him all too well of his lack of childhood. He could barely remember his own mother – he’d been three when Gaara was born and she’d died in the process. There weren’t any memories of a loving, supporting family. His father had been too cold and distant, a clever planner and brilliant manipulator. No, the only memories he had were of being the Kazekage’s child. The puppetmaster had learned early on that weakness would not be tolerated – even as a four year old, he’d been expected to train and train hard.
And perhaps that wouldn’t have been so bad. Even if his father was a murder and his brother had been considered a monster, he had an elder sister that was at least tolerable. They had some sort of comfortable support system for each other. But then Gaara had snapped when their father had tried to assassinate him and they were told to take care of a real monster. It’d been a hellish order, but it was one they had to carry out.
Still, as Kankuro looked over his brother now, he couldn’t help but feel like it’d all been worth it - that if things had gone any differently, their younger brother wouldn’t have become a calm, confident leader, but a totally different beast. And he couldn’t ask for anything more than what they had right now because it felt right.
Gaara: D: *sigh* This is just like Thursday night at home. I think I will stay late at the office tonight... >_>;
