Character Notes: History:Past: Shuyin was an ace Blitzball player for Zanarkand more than a thousand years ago, during the Bevelle and Zanarkand War. He was in love with the songstress Lenne, who was well known throughout Zanarkand, and could summon Aeons.
During the war, the two were both called into duty to fight against Bevelle. Lenne as a summoner, and Shuyin as a soldier. Many battles were fought, and his views on the world began deteriorating. After many losses and damages taken, Lenne was captured and held within the Bevelle prisons. His mind on the brink of insanity, Shuyin believed the only way to save her was to awaken a machina by the name of Vegnagun. The machina was used as a weapon, however- it had no way of distincting between friend or foe, and was therefore locked deep within the chambers below Bevelle, never being used for fear of it being highly dangerous.
Shuyin was somehow able to bypass the heavily guarded area and stand before Vegnagun, taking in the great machina with awe and wonder. However, he was captured right after, and placed within a prison cage by Bevelle soldiers. He managed to break free of this cage and come upon Vegnagun once again. By this time, he had noticed an organ-instrument at the top of Vegnagun’s head, and climbed up to there and began playing. Vegnagun began to roar with life, the music stirring the great machina and awakening it. As he continued, the cannon that would destroy all of Spira came out of its mouth, threatening to destroy everything at once. Only when Lenne came running forward on the docks and told Shuyin to stop, did he halt the process and shut down the machina.
The two were reunited in front of the now shutting down Vegnagun, but the reunion was cut short as Bevelle soldiers came running towards them, guns drawn, shinging lights on both. They looked into each others eyes, held each other, and knew they were going to die. They were fired upon in unison by the Bevelle soldiers, and the two fell to the floor. Lenne let a tear trickle down her face before they both died, and it has come to be something Shuyin has never forgotten, even now.
History cont'd. Present: Shuyin resides in the Den of Woe at the beginning of the canon, or rather- in the body of Nooj, a leader among the people of Spira. It was said Shuyin was buried in the Den of Woe, and the Pyreflies there actually preserved his memories, replaying how he lost Lenne. He became a wandering spirit within the caves, agonizing over the last few moments of his life. The replaying of his memories caused him to go utterly mad, driven to insanity by his grief and despair over losing her. His belief that using Vegnagun to destory all of Spira was only strengthened as time went on, as he heard about Sin and the destruction it caused all over Spira.
His powers as a spirit grew while he waited, his agony and suffering alone enough to break weak minds and cause others to go insane and kill each other, should they step within his lair. Over time, he learned how to possess others, and came to reside within Nooj when he and his group (consisting of Gippal, Paine, and Balarai) entered the Den of Woe to complete their training as Crimson Guards.
At the beginning of the story, Shuyin waits and plans for the proper time to take over Nooj’s body, and free Vegnagun from its heavily guarded chamber. This is where I’ll be taking him from, and his plans of destroying Spira are quiet until Yuna, Rikku, and Paine discover him through several spheres, and then running into the Den about halfway through the game.
Personality: Shuyin is pretty much a bitter thousand year old spirit. When his body was buried in the Den of Woe, Pyreflies preserved his memories of losing Lenne, and they replayed those memories over and over again. The ending result caused him to lose any compassion he had for the world, and go completely insane. He became the shadow of a man he once was, both physically and mentally. He has a very abrasive and harsh outlook on life- that there will be no end to the wars and constant sparring on Spira unless it is destroyed. He believes even now that using Vegnagun will solve everything, and that the only redemption the world has is to be destroyed in order to end all wars or fighting.
His attitude can be one that is described as “bordering on obsession” when it comes to destroying the world (as well as Lenne). Because he lost Lenne, his heart is cold towards everyone and everything, only believing that his way is the right way to do anything. He willingly and happily possesses those close to him, if he feels they are necessary to awakening Vegnagun, or if he wants to hurt someone and their relationship with others. He is only friendly and loving towards Yuna, because he believes he sees her as Lenne, and wants nothing more than to fade away with her.
Also, despite being cruel, Shuyin is patient, and meticulous in his planning. He will wait until the proper moment to strike and attack, if necessary. He inhabited Nooj’s body for 2 years, in order to get close to Vegnagun and awakening it. The spirit will use any means necessary to get what he wants, but he will not go after it like a fool. He waits, he plans, and he thinks about the outcome before doing so.
Other: If accepted, Shuyin will be on IC hiatus until the end of FFX canon. After Tidus disappears and goes on IC hiatus, I will come in as Shuyin, and after a little while, do a few video posts as to let members wonder if Tidus is alive/whatnot, and begin the canon. The reason of FFX-2 beginning/happening is because Yuna believes she sees him in a sphere from Mt. Gagazet, mistaking Shuyin as Tidus. She goes to search for him as a sphere hunter for the Gullwings.
Also, because Shuyin is a spirit, I will probably be italicizing/bolding his speech, to show he’s not there/another kind of being/possessing someone. It makes things a little easier that way.

First Person (entry type): I hear her song every waking moment that I linger here. It’s full of sorrow, full of pain. There are days where I swear I can hear her weeping.
Lenne... I promise I will free myself from this agony soon. I wish nothing more than to fade and find you once again. To hold you in my arms, to bring your gentle face to mine.
But the Pyreflies here refuse to let me go, driving me mad, replaying the memory of how I lost you. Over and over and over again. There is no relenting, no pause in their activity. My despair and grief have driven me over the edge; they’e been my driving force to break free of this suffering, to end everything that reminds me of you.
Your song, your voice, I can hear it everywhere. It’s just out of reach, yet I can feel myself so close to it. So close, my heart aches.
Vegnagun will save us. It is the only thing that can promise redemption to a constantly warring world. And I, at the controls, shall end all of Spira, and finally fade away to find you once more.
Please, Lenne. Wait for me a little longer. I promise I will never abandon you again, and I shall protect you from all that comes to harm you. Wait for me, and for the new life that we shall live together once I destroy all suffering this world has ever known.
Third Person:
It had been a thousand years since he had seen her face. A thousand years of despair, of remorse, of agony. He couldn’t save her, he couldn’t protect her in those final moments. With the chance of destroying the world at his fingertips, he would give it all away, just to hold her again.
Lenne... her name meant so much to him. It made his heart leap with joy, an emotion he had not felt in centuries. She brought so much happiness in his life, so much peace. And they took her from him, took everything he had ever achieved, away from him. Defiled, scorned, forgotten.
He would have his revenge on them. It was a dark promise he would never forget, not even beyond the grave.
Shuyin wandered the passageways of the Den of Woe, his mind constantly being reminded of how he lost her. The Pyreflies, they understood his suffering. They furthered it, nurtured it, coaxed his insanity to push forward, to begin plans of destroying the world once more. He began believing that the only way to see her again was to end all of Spira, to find Vegnagun once again.
For a thousand years, he suffered his memories, and began to plan on how to reach the ancient machina. He could hear it call to him, telling him to free it from captivity. Release me, it would say. Release me, and end all your pain upon this world by destroying it.
But the problem then became clear to the spirit- he would need a body in order to find the weapon, and activate it once more. And the only way for him to get one was through possession.
Who would've thought that his chance to seize that opportunity would come waltzing into his lair recently, without so much as a clue about him? The group seemed naive, innocent, though he knew soon enough his mere presence would drive most of them mad and on a rampant killing spree. However, one of the members looked useful. Perhaps... perhaps he could use this one to do his bidding.
While they were all frightened of what was happening within the Den of Woe, Shuyin took this opportunity to go and possess the one that perked his interest. Remaining hidden within the man's body- Nooj, Shuyin happily let him believe he was in control, escaping the Den of Woe and going back to the outside world with the remaining 3 members. As they all went to rest, the spirit realized his time was now.
Raising his weapon, making sure their backs were turned, Shuyin fired Nooj's gun at all three, watching them fall to the ground, a contempt look on his face. He knew, now- the world would soon fall hereafter.
